Norwegian Lundehund

Also known as the Norwegian Puffin Dog, the Lundehund is among the world's rarest of dogs. Distinctive physical characteristics enabled Lundehunds to excel at hunting. They have six toes on each foot, including two dewclaws. These extra toes enable the dogs to climb steep rock formations. Joints in the nape of the neck allow the dog to turn its head at a 180-degree angle. Shoulder joints are extremely flexible, and even the ears have mobility unknown to other dogs. Early Norwegians marveled at the dogs' ability to capture puffin birds, but now that the birds are protected and no longer hunted, Lundehunds are cherished for their dispositions. Members of the spitz family of dogs, Lundehunds are friendly and love people. They're not aggressive and will snuggle with people or other dogs for hours.
