Akita

Honored in its native land as a national treasure, the Akita is the largest of the three Japanese breeds belonging to the spitz family of dogs. At one time its ownership was restricted to the nobility, who used the breed to hunt large game such as wild boar and deer. Recommended for house dogs, the Akita breed's size and temperment makes an Akita dog less suitable for apartments. Most Akita dogs tend to be quite and keep to themselves. But Akitas are also alert, responsive and courageous. They tend to be aggressive toward other dogs. Make sure to get to know dogs well before bringing them into your home.
